Copthrone Hotel

By the end of the five-day course, you will be able to develop internal force, use Taijiquan patterns for combat, and hopefully have a glimpse of Tao. If you regularly practice what you have learnt at the course, you will have good health, vitality, longevity, combat efficiency, mental freshness and spiritual joys.

Some prior experience of Taijiquan, or even Taiji dance, is needed. For those who have been doing Taiji dance, this is an opportunity to convert it into Taijiquan, an internal martial art. On the other hand, advanced practitioners will enhance their internal force, combat efficiency and spiritual cultivation. But the course is NOT suitable for AIDS patients and those who are HIV positive.

To get the best benefits, it is advisable to learn the Twelve Basic Taijiquan Combat Sequences before the course. You can learn the 12 Combat Sequences step by step by clicking here

More details of the course can be found here. You can also read about the Secrets of the Internal Force Masters for attaining good health, combat efficiecny and spiritual joys here.

Please apply to Sifu Emiko Hsuen, Sifu Joan Browne or the Secretary for registration as soon as possible.

Taijiquan Combat Sequences

Learning the 12 Taijiquan Combat Sequences Step by Step

Shaolin Combat Sequences

Combat sequences constitute the core of our combat training. We have three sets of combat sequences to meet different needs – basic, distilled and abridged. When we have sufficient time, like at regular classes or intensive courses, we use 16 basic sequences. When we have less time, like at regional courses and summer camps, we use 8 distilled sequences. When time is limited, like at introductory and preparatory courses, we use 4 abridged sequences.

It is significant to note that the progression is from 16 sequences to 8 sequences to 4 sequences, and not the other way round. In other words, we start with 16 sequences, distill them into 8, and further abridge them into 4. It is not that we start with 4, but finding them inadequate we increase them to 8, then add further to 16. Hence, as they are the essence, our 4 abridged combat sequences are complete by themselves; students trained in just these four sequences are able to handle all the different categories of attack.

Taijiquan is an internal martial art. This means that a Taijiquan practitioner should have internal force and be able to apply Taijiquan patterns for combat.

When we have sufficient time, like at regular classes and intensive courses, we learn 12 combat sequences. The Teaching of Sifu Wong Kiew Kit

Sifu

A Shaolin disciple, for example, is trained to be courteous and considerate, brave and righteous, assess problems and situations with calmness and clarity, and attend to duties with zest and loyalty. While the philosophy of many martial arts mainly focuses on how to be stoic and hurt the opponent, Shaolin philosophy teaches gentleness and a love for life. The twin pillars of Shaolin philosophy are compassion and wisdom.
